storm brakes

SIBRE storm brakes hold rail-mounted cranes securely in place against wind and uncontrolled movement.

The range covers rail and wheel brakes, each built on a different mechanism to suit various holding forces and mounting requirements.

RPS - Rail brake

Spring force for maximum control.
The RPS combines proven SHI technology to provide reliable static braking for rail mounted cranes.

  • Spring applied, hydraulically released rail brake based on the SHI-caliper design
  • Presses down onto the top of the railhead to hold the crane stationary
  • Runs off a shared hydraulic power pack (up to 4 brakes per pack)
  • Holding force from 100 kN to 400 kN

Holding force 100 kN / 160 kN

Holding force 225 kN

Holding force 275 kN

Holding force 400 kN

RTCB - Rail brake

  • Gravity applied, electro-hydraulic thruster released wheel chock brake
  • Bi-directionally acting, static storm brake for gantry travel
  • Self-contained — no shared hydraulic power pack required
  • Holding force from 225 kN to 700 kN

Holding force 225 kN

Holding force 350 kN

Holding force 700 kN

RHI - Wheel Brake

  • Acts directly on the crane’s travel wheel — spring applied, hydraulically released.
  • Capable of dynamic braking in emergency conditions
  • Holding force from 29 kN to 125 kN (μ = 0.35) across the range

Lever arm caliper, braking force 30 kN to 125 kN (μ = 0.35)

Direct acting caliper, braking force 20 kN to 58 kN (μ = 0.35)

RB - Rail Clamp

Security that clings on.
The RB rail clamp from SIBRE ensures maximum safety for rail-mounted crane systems. Thanks to a braking mechanism that inherently compensates for lining wear, it offers reliable protection in extreme weather conditions.

  • Spring applied, electro-hydraulic released (via integrated HPU)
  • Grips both sides of the rail head to hold cranes stationary in high winds or power loss
  • Continuously guided on the rail by flange wheels, accommodating vertical and horizontal rail fluctuation
  • Holding force from 200 kN to 1000 kN (μ = 0.5) across the range

Spring-applied, holding force 200 kN to 1,000 kN (μ = 0.5)
